SafePet Ontario is pleased to announce that VCA Canada Animal Hospitals has enlisted 57 of its Ontario clinics to provide veterinary care for companion animals enrolled in the program. With clinics in almost every major city in the province, the partnership with VCA Canada will make the program more accessible to survivors throughout the Ontario.
Clinics enrolled as veterinary partners perform complementary wellness exams and routine vaccinations for pets of domestic and intimate partner violence survivors. For animals in need of further medical assistance or non-elective veterinary care, VCA Canada will also offer a 25 per cent discount on treatment.
“SafePet’s mission perfectly aligns with VCA Canada’s purpose of caring for life’s greatest companions,” says Darren Johnson, VCA Canada’s vice-president of marketing and strategic partnerships. “Our teams are passionate in supporting our communities, and this partnership is the perfect way for us to give back.”
Administered by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, SafePet Ontario helps people and pets find safety sooner by coordinating foster care for the pets of survivors fleeing domestic violence.
Veterinarians and veterinary teams play an integral role in the SafePet Ontario program by providing necessary and emergency treatment for pets in transition. The onboarding of VCA Canada’s clinics will substantially expand SafePet Ontario’s list of participating veterinary hospitals and allow the program to help survivors in new areas of the province.
“As a large, strong group, we have the veterinarians and teams in place to support pet parents that are going through this with SafePet,” says Johnson. “The teams in our hospitals want to provide that safe haven and offer veterinary services for pets of survivors who are fleeing difficult situations.”
